A story you don’t want to miss!

Deborah – Hello Mum, I’m strolling out to see our new neighbour that moved into this area last week. I heard she has children of my age and I’m really keen to make new friends. I’ve been bored and I need some company!

Mum – Deborah I don’t think you should go. Why not wait for your brothers/sisters to come back over the weekend then we can make plans for that!

Deborah asks – Mum why can’t I go, is there any problem?

Mum- Deborah, it’s not that I don’t want you to go there by yourself but sweetheart there is so much evil in this world. Do you remember the story of Dinah the daughter of Jacob and Leah in the Bible, she went to visit some of the young women in the area and Shechem raped her (Genesis 34:1-2). Those people you are going to see, you don’t know them, neither do I. What if you go and something terrible happens to you? Relax child and wait ✋for your siblings to come over this weekend, then we all can go together 🚶 and meet them. Child, disobedience always leads to destruction and there are consequences for every action. We don’t know if these people that have moved into this area are Christians. You know the Bible says we must not be equally yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship do light have with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14). Why I’m saying all this to you daughter is that in today’s world we still have people like Shechem and that is the reason you don’t need to go alone.
I don’t want anything bad to happen to you. I need to be sure that those friends you want to mingle with are godly company.

“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” (Exodus 20:12)

Deborah response: Thanks Mum, I won’t go there again. Let me go and get a caramel iced Frappe 🥤, will be back shortly.

On a Friday evening the siblings came home for a 1 week break! On Saturday the family visits their new neighbour.

Neighbour: Hello, how are you?

Deborah’s Mum: Hi! I’m are fine and you?

Neighbour: Good
What’s your name?

Deborah’s Mum: I’m Jessica! What about you?

Neighbour: I’m Noami

Deborah’s Mum: cool 😎
When did you move into this Neighborhood?

Neighbour: One week ago

Deborah’s Mum: Fantastic!
How many kids do you have?

Neighbour: 4 kids (18 years, 15 years, 10 years and 7 years old).

Deborah’s Mum: Wow, my kids are of the same age as yours and have been eager to meet with them!

Where are they? Are they indoors?

Neighbour: Well the 18 years and 15 years have gone for a night party and will be back at the early hours of tomorrow.
The 10 and 7 years are in the sitting room watching television 📺

Deborah’s Mum: okay! Do you allow your children to go clubbing?

Neighbour: Yes! You know this is Canada and children need to fit into society all else they will be left out. They need to enjoy themselves because they only have one life to live! How about your children, do they go for gig?

Deborah’s Mum: No!

Neighbour: Why? Please don’t be too strict on them. Loosen up a bit 😃😃😃. Anyway since they will be friends with my kids it won’t be difficult at all. They can be taught by them. Don’t worry about that!

Deborah’s Mum: Its nice chatting with you. I will see you some other time by God’s grace

Neighbour: Won’t you come inside at least take a bottle of Whisky?

Deborah’s Mum: No thank You. I don’t drink alcohol! Anyway is nice talking with you, will talk some other time.
Have a great evening, bye👋

Neighbour: Bye👋

Deborah: Mum, I can’t believe what I just saw today

Mum: Okay! Do you still want to associate with the neighbours?

Deborah: No

Siblings: Neither do we!

Mum: Bad company corrupts good character.
Children you need to be careful. Not all that glitters is gold.

Deborah: Mum I’m glad I listened to you when you were against me going to meet with them. You are the best Mum ever, I love you!

Mum: I’m glad you followed my instructions because God has indeed shown us who these people are!
Okay children, it’s time to get Dinner 🍽 ready because daddy will be here soon.

Children: Okay Mum

This short story teaches us to be careful who we associate with. Friendship is not by force; friendship is by choice. Remember that nothing destroys life like the wrong company. We are to associate with those who can fuel our spiritual fire and inflame our enthusiasm and momentum. For the Bible says Iron sharpeneth iron

“17┬áIron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” (Proverbs 27:17).

Never force yourself into a relationship that you are not comfortable with or else you may not like the outcome. It’s better to be alone than to be with the wrong crowd. I pray that in this season the Lord will disconnect us from every wrong association and bring the right people our way in Jesus Name.

Have an exceptional day
God bless you
