Matthew 6:1-6

6 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

COMMENTARIES

We see here that the Bible is warning all Christians to have pure motives in whatever they do. Our motives must be right before the Almighty. We all need to examine ourselves by checking our intentions if they are good! Do we do things for others to praise us or do we do things whether people are there or not? What is the motive behind everything we do? The Bible says that if we do it for people to notice our works, we have no reward! Let us make sure whatever we do is to the glory of God. Let us not be hypocrites but be authentic. It is vital that our prayer, giving to the needy, studying God’s word or praising is not for the purpose to be noticed or seen by others. Let it be something that you do often whether people are there or not.

However it is also vital not to allow thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: that means, if we are doing something for someone, don’t begin to announce or make people know your moves. If you do it secretly, your Father in Heaven will reward you openly.

Please let us all be careful in what we do for God to accept our labour. You don’t need to deceive yourself and behave like the hypocrites who stand to pray for men to notice their works. It is a warning to all Christians to be careful with their motives. As we continue studying and pondering on His word, God Almighty will speak and show us our wrongs if we come with an open heart.

Shalom!
